62.5mm Celotex PL4050 PIR Insulated Plasterboard 2.4m x 1.2m - 2.88m2 per board

62.5mm Celotex PL4050 PIR Insulated Plasterboard 2.4m x 1.2m - 2.88m2 per board

62.5mm Celotex PL4050 is a thermal laminate insulated plasterboard that combines a 50mm rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation core with a 12.5mm tapered edge plasterboard, for an overall board thickness of 62.5mm. The '50' in the PL4050 code marks the 50mm PIR core, a round, commonly specified insulation depth that does the thermal work behind the plasterboard face. It insulates and dry lines in one board, and the deeper core makes it a frequent choice for pitched roof slopes, room-in-roof and loft ceiling linings, as well as internal wall upgrades that call for more resistance than the thinner boards provide.

The 50mm core carries a thermal conductivity (lambda) of 0.022 W/mK, giving the board an R-value (thermal resistance) of 2.30 m²K/W including the plasterboard, higher again than the 52.5mm board below it in the range. Each sheet measures 2400mm x 1200mm, covers 2.88m² and is sold individually, at around 10.96 kg/m². It sits in the middle-to-upper part of the PL4000 range, with the 72.5mm and 77.5mm boards available where a project needs the strongest single-board figures.

With the insulation and the lining bonded as one board, a single fixing run insulates the slope or wall and provides the finished surface, rather than building up a separate insulation layer and then boarding over it. The 50mm core delivers its resistance in a board that still fits a sensible depth beneath rafters or against a wall, which is part of why this thickness is reached for so often on roof and ceiling work.

62.5mm Celotex PL4050 is fixed beneath pitched roof rafters and flat roof joists as the inner insulated lining, and used to dry line internal masonry and timber frame walls. On walls it is direct-bonded with dot and dab adhesive or mechanically fixed to battens; in roof and ceiling work it is fixed to the underside of the timbers to form an insulated, ready-to-finish soffit or ceiling. Install it to the latest Celotex technical guidance, the project specification and current Building Regulations, including fire requirements and any ventilation gap the roof build-up needs above the insulation. Detailed correctly, it helps limit the risk of surface condensation on the warm side and supports a lasting cut in heat loss. As with the rest of the range, it should not be used in the external walls of buildings over 11 metres in height.

Key Benefits of Celotex PL4050:

  • Thermal laminate pairing a 50mm rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) core with 12.5mm tapered edge plasterboard, 62.5mm overall.
  • R-value (thermal resistance) of 2.30 m²K/W including the plasterboard, a step up from the 52.5mm board.
  • Thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/mK, delivering that resistance from a 50mm core depth.
  • A common choice for pitched roof slopes, room-in-roof and loft ceiling linings, as well as wall upgrades.
  • Insulates and dry lines in one fixing operation, saving a separate boarding stage.
  • Direct-bonds to masonry by dot and dab, or fixes mechanically to battens, studwork and rafters.
  • Tapered edge plasterboard ready for taped, filled joints and a skim or paint finish.
  • Euroclass B-s1, d0 reaction to fire to BS EN 13501-1.
  • BRE Green Guide A+ rating, which can support BREEAM credits.
  • Blowing agent with zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and low Global Warming Potential (GWP), CFC/HCFC free.
  • BBA certified (Certificate 16/5357) for plasterboard thermal laminate applications.
  • 2400mm x 1200mm board covering 2.88m², sold individually, at around 10.96 kg/m².

Good to know:

  • The 62.5mm overall thickness is a 50mm rigid PIR core plus a 12.5mm tapered edge plasterboard.
  • In roof and ceiling work the board is fixed to the underside of rafters or joists; leave any ventilation gap the build-up requires above the insulation.
  • On masonry walls it is dot-and-dabbed or fixed to battens; follow Celotex guidance on the method and any membrane detail.
  • Butt the tapered edges together, then scrim-tape and fill the joints before skimming or decorating.
  • The bonded plasterboard face is the finished surface and provides the board's Euroclass B-s1, d0 reaction-to-fire performance.
  • A full board weighs around 31.6 kg (about 10.96 kg/m²), so treat overhead fixing to ceilings and slopes as a two-person job and support the boards while fixing.
  • Check vapour control for the specific build-up and follow current Celotex guidance on interstitial condensation.
  • Celotex PL4050 should not be used in the external walls of buildings over 11 metres in height; confirm against current Building Regulations.
  • Store boards flat, off the ground and under cover, keeping the plasterboard face dry.

Carrying a 50mm core in a single fix-and-finish board, 62.5mm Celotex PL4050 is the thickness many installers settle on for roof slopes, loft ceilings and walls that need a firmer thermal upgrade without a separate insulation layer to build up first.

Where the extra depth is no problem and budget leads, you can reach similar R-values for less: we also stock Tekwarm HP+ Insulated Plasterboard, which trades a deeper build-up for a lower price, alongside Tekwarm PIR Insulated Plasterboard as a like-for-like laminate alternative to Celotex PL4000. The full Celotex PL4050 datasheet is available to download for the complete specification and installation detail.
