70mm Kingspan Kooltherm K103 Floorboard Insulation 2.4m x 1.2m - 11.52m2 per pack

70mm Kingspan Kooltherm K103 Floorboard Insulation 2.4m x 1.2m - 11.52m2 per pack

70mm Kingspan Kooltherm K103 Floorboard is a mid-range floor insulation board for projects working towards a fuller floor U-value than the thinner boards in the range can reach, supplied as a pack of 4 sheets covering 11.52m². At 70mm it sits in the part of the range where you are chasing a tighter target without moving to the heaviest, slowest-handling boards.

The board carries a thermal resistance of 3.65 m²K/W, drawn from a fibre-free rigid thermoset phenolic core with a thermal conductivity of 0.019 W/mK. It measures 2400mm x 1200mm, has a square edge and is faced on both sides with glass tissue bonded during manufacture, and holds a compressive strength of 120 kPa to BS EN 826:2013. That combination puts strong resistance into a 70mm depth while keeping the board able to take the load of the screed or slab laid over it.

The square edge and the glass tissue facings let the boards butt tightly together across the floor. A close, continuous insulation layer is what limits the gaps and the thermal bridging that otherwise pull a floor away from the U-value it was specified to meet, so the tidy fit is doing performance work, not just making the boards easier to lay.

70mm Kingspan Kooltherm K103 is used in beam and dense block, suspended timber and solid concrete ground floors, laid over a damp proof membrane and installed in line with the latest Kingspan guidance and the project specification. In suspended timber floors the boards sit between the joists on battens, saddle clips or nails rather than over them, and the board is compatible with underfloor heating. Fitted this way, the 70mm pack gives a room or a smaller floor a single, dependable insulation layer beneath the finished surface.

Key Benefits of Kingspan Kooltherm K103:

  • 70mm rigid thermoset phenolic floor board with a fibre-free insulation core.
  • Thermal conductivity of 0.019 W/mK, at the lower-lambda end of rigid board insulation.
  • Thermal resistance (R-value) of 3.65 m²K/W at 70mm.
  • Compressive strength of 120 kPa to BS EN 826:2013, for use beneath a floor screed or slab.
  • Square edge, faced on both sides with glass tissue bonded during manufacture.
  • Boards measure 2400mm x 1200mm; 4 boards per pack covering 11.52m².
  • Suitable for beam and dense block, suspended timber and solid concrete ground floors.
  • Compatible with underfloor heating.
  • Reaction to fire classification of Euroclass C-s2,d0 to BS EN 13501-1:2018.

Good to know:

  • Lay the boards over a damp proof membrane of at least 1200 gauge; the insulation should not be in direct contact with the subsoil.
  • In suspended timber floors the boards sit between the joists on battens, saddle clips or nails, not fixed directly over the joists.
  • K103 resists the passage of water vapour but is not a vapour control layer; where it is laid under a screed, lay a separate lapped and taped polythene sheet as the VCL.
  • Where a thicker layer is needed, boards can be doubled up in a break-bonded pattern so no two joints align.
  • The 3.65 m²K/W figure is the board's thermal resistance, not a finished floor U-value; confirm the U-value against the full build-up before ordering.

For a ground floor aiming at a tighter U-value without moving up to the heaviest boards, the four-board 70mm pack covers a room from one delivery and keeps the build-up in check.
