12.5mm Moisture Resistant Plasterboard (Tapered Edge) 2.4m x 1.2m - 2.88m2 per board

12.5mm Moisture Resistant Plasterboard (Tapered Edge) is a gypsum board treated to resist moisture, for lining internal walls and ceilings in rooms where humidity and occasional splashing are part of daily life: kitchens, bathrooms, en-suites and utility rooms. Water-repellent additives worked through the core slow the water absorption that swells and weakens a standard board, so the wall keeps its shape and gives a sound base for tiling or decoration.

Each board measures 2400mm x 1200mm x 12.5mm and covers 2.88m², sold per board, and 12.5mm is the standard thickness for domestic kitchens and bathrooms. It is a moisture-resistant board to BS EN 520, Type H1: the grade with the lowest water absorption, 5% or less by weight, so it holds up in the damp where an ordinary sheet would not, while cutting, fixing and finishing like any familiar gypsum board. The tapered long edges keep it consistent with the rest of a plasterboard job, taping and filling flush across the run.

The moisture resistance comes from the core, not a surface coating alone. Water-repellent additives run through the gypsum so the board resists absorbing ambient humidity and the splashes a kitchen or bathroom throws at it, which is what stops the core softening, sagging or feeding mould over time. That stability is also what makes it a dependable substrate: tile straight onto it with a suitable waterproof adhesive and grout, or tape, fill and skim for a painted finish.

12.5mm moisture resistant plasterboard goes onto timber and metal stud walls, partitions and ceilings in humidity-prone rooms, and is the board building control will expect to see on bathroom and kitchen walls under Approved Document C. Cut it by scoring and snapping or with a plasterboard saw, fix with drywall screws or bond by dot and dab, and install it in line with the manufacturer's guidance and your project specification. One thing to be clear on: it is moisture resistant, not waterproof, and is not for areas of constant, direct water contact. Inside a shower enclosure or a wet room, use a cement-based tile backer board, or tank the moisture board with a waterproofing membrane before tiling. Used in the right place, it keeps damp-prone rooms sound where a standard board would fail.

Key Benefits of 12.5mm Moisture Resistant Plasterboard:

  • 12.5mm moisture resistant gypsum plasterboard for internal walls and ceilings in kitchens, bathrooms, en-suites and utility rooms.
  • Water-repellent additives worked through the gypsum core to resist humidity and occasional splashing.
  • Manufactured to BS EN 520 as a moisture-resistant board (Type H), the standard way to meet Approved Document C in damp-prone rooms.
  • Resists the swelling, sagging and softening that affects standard board in humid conditions, helping to limit mould growth.
  • Stable base for tiling with a suitable waterproof adhesive and grout, or for a taped-and-jointed or skimmed finish.
  • Tapered long edges tape and fill flush for a seamless, paint-ready surface.
  • Full 2400mm x 1200mm sheet covering 2.88m², sized to standard 400mm and 600mm stud and joist centres.
  • Non-combustible gypsum core, classified Euroclass A2-s1,d0 for reaction to fire.
  • Cuts by scoring and snapping or with a plasterboard saw, and fixes with drywall screws or dot and dab.
  • Insulation UK own-brand board at competitive trade pricing, with bulk pricing available.

Good to know:

  • Moisture resistant, not waterproof. It handles humidity and splashes, not constant direct water. Inside showers and wet rooms, use a cement tile backer board or tank the board with a waterproofing membrane before tiling.
  • Green is the on-site giveaway. Moisture-resistant plasterboard is conventionally faced in green so it is easy to tell apart from standard board; check the board and packaging to confirm the grade for your job.
  • A base for tiling, with the right adhesive. It takes ceramic tiling well, but use a waterproof tile adhesive and grout so the finished surface, not just the board, resists water.
  • Not a cure for damp. It is not intended to isolate or hold back dampness, so it will not fix a damp wall; deal with the source of the damp first.
  • Keep it flat and dry. Store boards flat, off the ground and protected from damp before fixing, and do not fix boards that have got wet.

For the everyday damp of a kitchen, bathroom or utility room, 12.5mm moisture resistant plasterboard is the sensible board to reach for: a water-repellent core that keeps a wall or ceiling sound in humidity, finished flush off the tape and ready to tile or paint.
